Palbong-san Mountain is one of the 100 splendid mountains. It rises 327.4 meters above sea level. It consists of 8 low peaks, explaining its name, Palbong-san Mountain (8 Peak Mountain). Every peak has its own hidden enchanting scenery. The rocks and stones along the Hongcheon-gang River meet the wide, white sandy beaches, creating the most picturesque of scenery.

From the top of Gari-san Mountain, which rises 1,051 meters above sea level, climbers are seized by open views and the scenery of Soyang-ho Lake at their feet. Spring water welling out between the rocks under the southern side of the 1st peak, and flowing into the one hundred mile long Hongcheon-gang River is the special pride of Gari-san Mountain, offering thirsty climbers a clear feeling of refreshment.

Once upon a time, a geomancer looked at the geographical features in the area, determining an auspicious spot that was anticipated to be able to produce exalted dignitaries. They say there cried cranes, rose a candleholder-shaped rock, and came down fairies to wash themselves. Now, you can see beautiful rocks and waterfalls connected with those tales, after which the area is named ‘Miam-dong’ or ‘Miyak-gol’.

This is a celebrated mountain standing 652 meters above sea level, on top of which we can enjoy views of Noil Village, which is Taegeuk-shaped. (Taegeuk is a yin and yang symbol.) There, we can take in the views of all the Jangrak-sanmaek Mountains at a glance. Jangrak-sanmaek is a tail of Hangang-gimaek, stretching deep from Baekdu-daegan, through Odae-san Mountain, up to the Hangang riverside in the inland Yeongseo region. Although it is not particularly high, it has various courses up to the top, and is famous for its observatory from which the best scenery of the riverside area of Hongcheon-gang can be enjoyed.

Garyeong Waterfall cherishes the grand views of a waterfall falling from a cliff from a 50-meter height, making a thundering noise. It is also a paradise of mountain birds, around which numerous kinds of wild edible greens, medical plants, and wild flowers grow naturally. Mumyeongdamso and Garyeong Waterfalls at the Biryaeol Valley also create a small spring of clean water at Eosarideok, at an altitude of 950 meters above sea level, and from which the hundred-mile long Hongcheon-gang River originates.

On the peak of Gongjak-san Mountain, at an altitude of 887 meters above sea level, we can take in the whole view of Hongcheon. It is named after its peacock-like shape. When we see it from Hongcheon-eup, it looks like a giant lying down facing the sky.

This 10km valley originating from Gwang-am-ri, Naecheon-myeon, passing through Goeseok-ri, Ducheon-myeon, and finally reaching Cheonhyeon-ri. There, clean water melts into the rocks and stones. It boasts the picturesque sceneries of luxuriant forests and small pools and flat rocks, for which it is known to be as beautiful as Naeseorak.

This is a paradise surrounded by primitive forests covering the sky, and includes the unexplored scenery of Saldun Valley, including Gyebang-cheon River and Jaun-cheon River. Water flowing along the Saldun Valley is high-quality water supporting the life of Eoreumchi and Yeolmok-eo. These are both Natural Treasures.

During the Joseon Dynasty, this area was called Shilon Yaksu. However, it was later renamed as Sambong Yaksu, being located at the center of three peaks, Gachil-bong, Sasam-bong, and Eungbok-san. It spouts clean mineral water rarely found in Koreawater selected as one of 100 cleanest mineral water sources in Korea. The water contains fifteen ingredients known to be good for anemia, diabetes, neuralgia, and gastro enteric problems, making this a popular place to visit.
