Taxis
Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive in Korea, clean and safe. There are taxi stands in most city areas, and taxis can also be hailed on the streets. As well, certain taxis can be requested by phone, through the fare for these special call taxis is somewhat higher than regular taxis.
1. Regular Taxis
The fare system is based on both the distance and the time taken.Fares are W1900 for the first 2 km and W100 for each 168m. Fares increase 20% between midnight and 4 a.m.
2. Jumbo Taxis
Jumbo taxis, called daehyeong taxi in Korean, are black mini-vans. They offer more passenger space of up to 8 passengers at a time and a high standard of service with taxi call service, simultaneous interpretation phone service. Fares are W4,000 for the first 3km and W200 for each additional 205 m or 50 seconds if the speed drops below 15 km per hour. Receipts are given. There is no late-night surcharge. Jumbo taxis can be taken at stands located at hotels, train stations and bus, or on major city streets.
Car Rentals
Rental cars are available for visitors, and charges are from 55,000 to 460,000 per day.
For your safety driving in korea, you may take some practice. Due to the different traffic rules and an unfamiliarity with the roads, it may be advisable to hire a driver along with the car.
Visitors must below the following requirements to rent a car :
- Over 1 year driving experience
- Have an international driver license
- Be over 21 years of age
- Possess a valid passport
Visitors who wish to hire a chauffeur-driven car should pay the driver charges including meals and resort expenses as well.
